Should Government force junk food manufacturers to add nutrients and vitamins to their products?

For SureMaybeNo Way
Can this stuff be made healthy by adding vitamens and nutirends to it?

Can this stuff be made more healthy by adding nutrients and vitamins to it?

It can be argued that the type and amounts of food we eat is not healthy.  If we are going to eat Junk Food anyway, should our government pass laws to force junk food manufactures to add extra vitamins and nutrients to their products?

The question is, would this food now be considered healthy?  Would people eat more of the food since it now contains some goodness?

Unfortunately some people’s diets consist of Fast Food, snacks, candy and soda.  Such diets may lead to malnutrition and by adding vitamins to this food may help those that really need it.

I am on the fence. The thoughs I have are: Why not. No difference to me.

But on the other hand, will people just end up eating more Junk Food thinking it is healthy.

In the end, the consumer will likely ‘eat’ the cost.

I’m all for it. Hell I heard NY is forcing restaurants (and I’m not talking about Fastfood joints) to post some of the nutritional information on their menus.

Will forcing restaurants help anything in the long run? I suppose some water and a salad on the menu will make some government employees happy.

I say let people make what they want and let people eat any crap they want.

the last thing we need is junk food manufacturers being able to advertise their sugar and fat laden products as healthy just because a few vitamins have been added.

Boston Pizza has a salad with 1800 calories (or something there abouts) I’m sure lots of people ordered that as their “healthy alternative” and felt good about themselves. Information is never a bad thing. Read at your pleasure or ignore it at your leisure; your choice.

I agree that information is good. I’m all for restaurants posting nutrition information of the food they serve. What I don’t want is companies advertising otherwise unhealthy food as the “healthy alternative” because some small amount of vitamins have been added.

    Leave the junk food alone!

It is stupid to force companies to do this sort of thing. If you don’t like the fact that you get no nutrients from a candy bar, then don’t eat the candy. I like a piece of chocolate once in a while, but I have the self control to go for a piece of fruit first. It should be the right of the company to produce whatever they want, as long as they are not adding poisons to the product.
