Are things bad with the environment or is it blown out of proportion?

Here we are pumping out enormous amounts of pollution from our factories, vehicles and power plants.  Due to the carbon dioxide levels the human race is creating, we are being told that these gasses are causing the planet to heat up.  The heating up of the planet is causing the melting of the ice caps, and changes weather patterns.

Now we are not talking about 15 degrees a year increases, but the increases are measurable.  Some people say this is nothing to worry about and it is just a fluctuation which the planet cycles through.  As for the Ice caps, they have been melting for a long time, well before man had factories and cars.

On the other hand we are being told if we do not change our habits now, we will not have a habitable planet in a couple of decades.  We will have food shortages, un-breathable air that he been polluted and no way to correct the problem once the damage is done.

So the question is this, are scientists making global warming into a bigger deal than it really is?  Perhaps they are crying Chicken Little, or perhaps they really do know what is best.

I think it is clear we need to do something about how much pollution we are creating. We may soon be at the point of no return and none of us want that to happen.

There will be many generations after us, we need to do what we can to make it a great planet for them.

The correct term is “climate change” and not “global warming.”

The core of the problem is overpopulation. I’ve seen scientists try to marry the two issues in various press conferences and the public turn their noses up at it.

IMO, until people realise that the obese human reproduction rate is the key to EVERY SINGLE MAJOR PROBLEM IN SOCIETY then entering into dialogue on climate change isn’t going to work even if there were 10,000 chicken littles screaming it from the top of 10,000 hen houses.

My answer is that scientists are definitely not making enough noise regarding accelerated climate change - especially the reason why it exists and the very simple solution attached to it (controlled population growth).

The reality is that people are too busy desperately recycling themselves to pay much mind to Earth and her needs.

“I NEED A MINIVAN TO GET MY SIX CHILDREN TO SOCCER, BALLET, AND KARATE. I KNOW IT’S HARD ON GAS BUT I USE MY GREEN BIN SO IT ALL WORKS OUT RIGHT? RIGHT?”

    Uhh…

Weather will change. Sometimes you can predict it, and mostly you can’t. It’s possible that there will be ice ages again, as there will be hot seasons.

The growth of consumption is reaching the limits. Even if we reduced consumption or developed technology to reduce greenhousegases enough, we would still face the limits. We need to change the way we think. It’s not all only about climate.
